Who Am I?

I’ve been taking a lot of Facebook quizzes lately. They pop up on my newsfeed and I can’t seem to resist. It occurred to me this morning that there might be a reason for this compulsion that is so ubiquitous on the Internet.

Forming Our Opinions

 

Over the holidays I had a discussion with a Libertarian family member. I knew we would not agree on much but I was very interested in how she arrived at her points of view. And I had a real breakthrough moment. We were discussing global warming and economic issues. At some point she talked about her research into one or another issue and I could feel her disdain at my lack of same. AND THEN IT HIT ME.

Feminism Now

Tonight we are hosting a talk on the history of Feminism. I am thinking about what that means. Many of us who have lived through most of the “waves” are trying to figure out what we should be doing, how we should feel, what we still want.

Body Image

If you are a woman in this country (and many others) you have experienced extreme reactions to your perceptions of your body. You might be dealing with weight issues, or perhaps there is a feature you hate. Men on the other hand seem to avoid this dilemma. Here is an old cartoon that captures this well:

Today I watched a video …a woman named Lily Myers wrote an amazing poem about this and I wanted to share it here….
